Micaela leads the CRW team for Carnival 2018

Cowley Road Works has a new Executive Director.

Micaela Tuckwell has joined Cowley Road Works as the new Executive Director, following Johannah Aynsley’s departure at the end of February.

Micaela has a background in arts fundraising and charity development, most recently, as a fundraiser for the Story Museum in Oxford where she was part of a small team raising funds towards the museum’s £6m capital redevelopment campaign. Previously she was project manager for Oxford-based community education charity Jacari.

Micaela has lived in Oxford for over 10 years and says: “I am continually motivated by the energy and enthusiasm of the organisers, volunteers, participants and supporters of Oxford’s wide-ranging quality arts and community projects and activity champions that work with us at Cowley Road Works.

“My main aim is to strengthen the long-term future of Carnival one of the region’s biggest free multicultural community arts events. Oxford’s communities deserve great quality, sustainable cultural events that everyone can participate in and enjoy

Brian Trotman, chair of CRW’s Board of Trustees welcomed Micaela saying: “Micaela inherits a great team, who are, (with one exception) the same people who were instrumental in producing a brilliant Carnival in 2017. She will hit the ground running to organise this year’s event to deliver another great Carnival in 2018 and a year of fun and sustainable cultural events for everyone.”

Cowley Road Works won the Oxfordshire Business Award in 2017 for best tourism and cultural event.

This year’s Carnival will be on 1 July starting at 11.00, with the procession at 12.30 pm. The Carnival receives core funding support from Oxford City Council, however, further fundraising and sponsorship is crucial to cover costs and secure the event for future years, which will one of Micaela’s key challenges.
