Cowley Road Works

Based in East Oxford, Cowley Road Works (CRW) is a charity which uses arts and culture as a platform for a year-round community engagement programme.

With an impressive and demonstrable social impact and inspired by the rich multi-cultural diversity of the area our key aims are to: support disadvantaged individuals and groups in and around Oxford, foster community cohesion in the most challenging areas of the city, break down divisions.

We address need where we find it and work with local community and cultural groups, schools, youth services and groups, young people with learning disabilities, children in the care system and more.

Carnival

The Cowley Road Carnival is the region’s biggest and most celebrated public event held on the first Sunday in July and attended by around 50,000 people each year. In 2009 we took over the production of the Carnival as our flagship event and the springboard for our year-round activities.

The Carnival is inclusive: it brings together all ages, and all ethnic, social and economic groups and is the culmination for our cultural outreach programme.

We our proud of our reputation for high quality content, interactive opportunities and access for all philosophy, recognised by our Oxfordshire Business Award for Best Tourism and Cultural event.

A Shared Experience

As well as providing opportunities for training, mentoring and skills sharing; we inspire old and young to join in and be a part of a shared social experience -something that has a legacy and value to the community at large.

We attract strong commitment from individuals (Trustees, partner organisations, freelance staff, volunteers, performers, artists, collaborators and others), delivering arts and cultural led projects throughout the year. These involve many schools, local organisations, workforces and community groups. The activities engender creativity social pride and improve general health and wellbeing.

Cowley Road Works (CRW)  is a registered charity (charity no. 1118902) and a company limited by guarantee (company no. 6181276). It commenced work in 2009 when East Oxford Action handed over the responsibility of producing Cowley Road Carnival.
