Award for Access

OPEN ACCESS for Cosmic Carnival 2019

Cowley Road Works are extremely proud to have been awarded Bronze by Attitude is Everything for commitment to making the Cowley Road Carnival on 7 July accessible to Deaf and disabled people.

Attitude is Everything is a disability-led charity which works to improve Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music translating the Equality Act 2010 into accessible good practice guidance. The Charter provides a framework to examine all aspects of making live music venues and events accessible,

Micaela Tuckwell, Executive Director of Cowley Road Works, said: “I am really, really proud of the Cowley Road Carnival team. We been awarded the Access Charter of Best Practice – Bronze Level by Attitude is Everything in recognition of our work making Cowley Road Carnival as accessible as possible for Deaf and disabled people

“As a small team of freelancers with very limited resources, we are totally punching above our weight and are only the 2nd music venue/festival in Oxford to achieve this.”

The ROARsomes, a group of young people with disabilities, have curated the Planet Inclusive zone where you can enter the conversation about what inclusivity means … with cake as food for thought!

Gideon Feldman, Head of Programmes and Business Development for Attitude is Everything said: “Cowley Road Carnival is the first carnival to join our Charter and we’re thrilled to have them on board! They have reviewed the street set up to ensure it is easily navigable, set up ‘soft’ viewing areas for smaller stages, trained the team in disability equality, and provided good quality access information online. We’re glad they’ve put this work into improving access so that disabled carnival-goers can have an equal experience.”
