Bee Hotel

How To Make a Bee Hotel

This year our schools workshops are a little different. Instead of making art for the procession inspired by the theme of Carnival, we’re going to make some art projects from home. We still want to learn about the theme for Carnival, which is ‘Mother Earth’ so we’ve teamed up with scientists and researchers from the University of Oxford so we can learn a bit about the environment.

In the two videos below we’re going to learn about bees from scientist Liam Crowley. We’re then going to work with artist Caitlin Howells to make our very own Bee Hotels. Why not also download our Bee Hotel Worksheet and have a go at answering some questions on bees? In these videos, Liam talks about bees and their habitats – can you note where each type of bee makes its nest?

Parents and teachers, download the Bee Hotel Information for Parents and Teachers pack to learn what your child will need to make their bee hotel, what adult supervision is required and the answers to our worksheet

This workshop was made for St Francis CofE Primary School in East Oxford, but everyone is welcome to join us in making bee hotels!

With huge thanks to the University of Oxford Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division for supporting this project and making it all possible, as well as Carnival at Home’s wonderful sponsors and supporters.
