On the first Sunday of July, the whole community of Oxford comes together to bring colour, rhythm, art and life to the streets of Cowley Road as Carnival takes over.
This huge celebration unites our community of around 1000 artists, 700 procession participants, and 50,000 people representing 52 countries and cultures together.
Carnival has a huge presence in the life of the city and, as the charity behind the organisation of the Carnival, Cowley Road Works has a year-round programme of outreach in the community, working with individuals and groups in the city, many from the most deprived areas. We provide training, development and opportunities throughout the year with Carnival providing a goal for showcasing achievement and practical experience.
This year we are working with young people with learning disabilities, SEN schools, looked after children in the care system, schools with 35%+ Pupil Premium, young people excluded from mainstream education, young BAME women and many more groups. In 2020 year we’ve laid out on costs, but we can’t bring in any Carnival day income, so…
We are asking for your support to help us to keep the work going and get back on Cowley Road in 2021
