Carnival @ Home ’21
Due to the uncertainties and unpredictable nature of the pandemic, plans for Carnival celebrations of this year’s theme ‘Mother Earth’ will feature Eco Floats around the city, virtual livestreams on the day (4th July 2021) and an alternative event which can still be delivered and enjoyed if the current Government roadmap and rules change.
With all the uncertainties surrounding the pandemic and organising large events, we have not been able to plan for a typical Carnival Day with up to 50,000 people crowded together on the street.
Keeping members of the public safe is of paramount importance and so we have determined on an innovative celebration of our theme Mother Earth which will bring the party to the people – rather than people to the party!
We are organising a parade of eco floats which will be decorated by local artists, schools and other groups in the community. Each float will start and finish in the East Oxford area, for example: The Oxford Business Park, the Mini Plant, Blackbird Leys, Rose Hill, Florence Park and South Park/Oxford Brookes University.
We want to get the Carnival vibe going all around the city, and want everyone to decorate their homes for Carnival Day. We will also be publishing guidelines for communities to organise street parties.
We are still in the planning stage and more exact routes will be published at a later date”
